Stephanie Chesnut, M.A., LMFT – Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

Stephanie Chesnut is a graduate of Antioch University New England and holds an M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy. She has worked with individuals, and families, to help them overcome the challenges they have faced in their lives.

With individuals, Stephanie has experience helping adults and teens going through life changes, experiencing depression, post-traumatic stress, anxiety, and difficulty adjusting to new circumstances. Stephanie has worked extensively with survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence, helping survivors through an empowerment model to process and heal past emotional wounds.

In her work with couples, Stephanie uses Emotionally Focused Therapy and the Gottman Method, two of the most rigorously researched and proven therapy methods for improving connection and intimacy with partners.

Gottman Method Couples Therapy was developed out of this research to help partners:

  • Increase respect, affection, and closeness
  • Break through and resolve conflict when they feel stuck
  • Generate greater understanding between partners
  • Keep conflict discussions calm

Emotionally Focused Therapy is used to:

  • Expand and re-organize key emotional responses
  • Create a shift in partners’ interactional positions and initiate new cycles of interaction.
  • Foster the creation of a secure bond between partners.

Stephanie also holds graduate degrees from Dartmouth College and the University of Paris, Nanterre, with additional graduate coursework completed at Trinity College, Dublin.  Before becoming a therapist, Stephanie worked as the Assistant Director of the Center for Women and Gender at Dartmouth College and enjoyed engaging with students through advising, programming, and events. In her free time, Stephanie enjoys creative writing, traveling, and spending time with her family.
